This 75x75cm canvas was painted as a response to all my walking in the field behind my studio during the first lock down.  I learnt how much the character of a humble field can change, not just seasonally, but from week to week, firstly depending on the weather conditions and secondly by the gradual growth of plants.

Walking along one of the sides of this field informs the walker that it is not flat but has a ridge about half way.  Walking toward the brow offers a continually changing view as more of the land and seascape beyond is revealed  The view of a headland, which was obscured by the slope on the walk up, gave me an opportunity to explore the striking juxtaposition which occurred on the horizon and the effect it had on the flatness of the painting.
