I love it, at this time of year, when shadows have an intensity which is lacking in summer.  When simultaneously the moon or the sun, close to the horizon, casts light over the sea the contrast is dramatic.  There is no such colour on an artist’s palette called ‘light’, and so we have to convey it by juxtaposing areas of dynamically different tones.  If we overdo it the atmosphere is lost.  If we under do it the drama is lost.  No wonder this 50x60cm, mixed media on canvas painting was on and off the easel for months!
