Many of my favourite themes and subjects are all in this recent 40x50cm, mixed media on canvas painting. West Cornwall elements are juxtaposed in one composition. A granite hedge and whitewashed house sit under clifftop meadows with an old Monterey Pine overlooking the Atlantic. These pines are significant landmarks here in Penwith partly because most tree species find it difficult to grow to maturity in salt laden 80mph winds. I thought they must be ancient but when I googled them I learnt that they usually only live for around 100 years. All the lower branches that have been broken off must only have done so fairly recently in this ancient landscape and these landmarks are far from permanent.
