My next water themed painting was completed recently. 80x80cm, mixed media on canvas. I spent a long time playing with the reflections at the top of the picture and experimenting with the picture surface. The image, overall, is fairly flat and there isn’t much of a sense of perspective. But I do think that these reflections are not just enriching the surface but also giving it some depth. They seem to be below the water surface rather than reflections on its surface. I like that contradiction, ambiguity and complexity.
